‘On the 18th January, we all excitedly set off to the train station for London to see Matilda. The children enjoyed travelling by train and pointing out the sights of London through the window. After a short walk to the theatre, we found our seats on the dress circle. We had a perfect view! The stage was surrounded by wooden alphabet blocks and the children started spotting the hidden words as we were waiting for the show to begin. The performance was amazing. The children were so impressed by the dancing and singing. At the interval, we were joined by the choreographer who has been giving the children dance workshops and who had kindly arranged the trip for the children. She introduced some of the children to a member of the stage crew who was able to answer their questions about the technical aspects of the production.
The second half was as impressive as the first, with the children intently watching; the laser lights being a particular highlight. After the performance, the rest of the audience left and we were lucky enough to be invited downstairs to the stalls and meet some of the cast. The children really enjoyed seeing the safety checks of the moving parts of the stage from a different angle, watching in awe as the school desks magically disappeared into the stage floor. The cast were lovely and answered the children’s questions with real enthusiasm. On the train home, the children were full of excitement from the show and many have asked when we can go again. They behaved brilliantly and arrived back at the house tired but thrilled by the experience.’
