‘Throughout the latter months of 2016, the adults at Earthsea House have as usual been frantically getting ready for one of our busiest days of the year, our traditional Christmas Feast Day. The theme this year was Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. As always, the theme was kept secret from the children prior to the day, in order to create the magical transformation of the house on the day. The children and their Link Workers headed out in the morning for a buffet breakfast, a trip to the cinema and a walk around the local city Christmas lights. Meanwhile back at the house, the remaining adults were busy setting up for the day. The foyer was turned into the empty bedroom within the Narnia film, which contained the mythical wardrobe. This served as the door through which everyone entered the playroom, which had been transformed into Narnia!
Both the snowy Narnia and Aslan’s Narnia were represented in the room, as well as the famous lamp post and the Snow Queen’s Ice Castle. Snow machines ensured the effect was achieved to it’s fullest! Everyone enjoyed a sumptuous feast of Narnia related food before the children enjoyed playing some themed games. The fire in the lounge was lit to set the scene for some Christmas carols and Secret Santa, before the children headed upstairs for a Christmas film whilst the adults set about restoring downstairs to it’s pre-Narnia state. Everyone had a wonderful day and Narnia provided the setting for one of our most successful Christmas Feast days to date.’
